Five matches to watch

Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain (Wednesday)

The biggest fixture of the round. City won 2-0 at Porto on Matchday 1, and PSG beat Slovan Bratislava 6-1. One of them will lose a perfect start.

Atlético de Madrid v Manchester United (Tuesday)

Atlético lost 2-1 at Liverpool in their opening match, so they need points at home. United arrive after beating Sabah 4-0.

Roma v Real Madrid (Wednesday)

Real Madrid beat Inter 2-1 on Matchday 1. Roma drew 1-1 at Fenerbahçe and now play their first home match of the league phase.

Galatasaray v Barcelona (Tuesday)

Barcelona scored five against Feyenoord in a 5-1 win. Galatasaray lost 3-1 at Sporting CP and return to Istanbul looking for their first points.

Arsenal v Lille (Tuesday)

Arsenal won 1-0 at Napoli on Matchday 1. Lille lost 3-2 at home to Real Betis and cannot afford a second defeat.

How the league phase works

All 36 teams sit in one table. Each team plays eight matches against eight different opponents, four at home and four away. The top eight go straight to the round of 16. Teams from 9th to 24th play a two-legged knockout play-off for the remaining places, and teams from 25th to 36th are out of Europe.

The remaining league phase matchdays are 20–21 October, 3–4 November, 24–25 November, 8–9 December, 19–20 January and 27 January. The final is on 5 June 2027 in Madrid.
