Club football returns across Europe this weekend after the international break

Three weeks of national-team football end on Friday. The Premier League, La Liga and the rest restart on 9–11 October, and the Champions League follows on 13 October.

The international window closed last week, and club football is back from Friday. For most leagues this is the first full matchday since 20 September.

In England, Arsenal open the weekend at home to Leeds United on Saturday 10 October, with Chelsea hosting Bournemouth and Sunderland facing Brighton on the same afternoon. In Spain, the matchday starts a day earlier with Málaga against Espanyol, and Barcelona play Getafe on Saturday.

The Champions League league phase returns on Tuesday 13 October. Galatasaray host Barcelona, Inter face Club Brugge and Lens meet Sporting on the same night, with the rest of the round spread across Tuesday and Wednesday.

The break itself was not short of drama: Greece beat Germany for the first time in their history, Portugal moved six points clear of their Nations League group after winning 4-2 in Denmark, and Wales took down Erling Haaland's Norway. Several of those players now go straight back into club football with barely a week's rest.

Live tables, scores and fixtures for every competition are on the matches pages, and they update by themselves while the games are being played.
