Form guide

Manchester City

Seven games, seven wins, 21 points and a three-point lead over Arsenal. City are only the third team in Premier League history to win their first seven games of a season, after Chelsea in 2005-06 and Liverpool in 2019-20, and Enzo Maresca is the first manager to win his first seven league games in charge of a club. They beat AEK Athens 5-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday, and Erling Haaland has 12 goals in 10 games.

Aston Villa

Villa are a strange mix right now. They're perfect in the Champions League after beating Viking 3-1 on Wednesday, and they've won five of their last six in all competitions. But they're 12th in the league and still waiting for their first home league win of the season.

Team news

Aston Villa: Amadou Onana (knee ligament), Matteo Ruggeri (thigh) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (hamstring) are out. Johan Manzambi and Modou Keba Cissé are minor doubts. Matty Cash is expected back, and Ian Maatsen could start after an ankle problem.

Manchester City: Antoine Semenyo is out for around eight weeks with a knee injury. Nico O'Reilly, Mateo Kovačić and Matheus Nunes were rested in midweek and should be back. Maresca says Haaland is "100% available".

Possible line-ups

These are projections from pre-match reports, not confirmed teams. The official line-ups come out about an hour before kick-off.

Aston Villa: Suzuki; Cash, Lindelöf, Torres, Maatsen; Kamara, Gomes; McGinn, Manzambi, Buendía; Jackson.

Manchester City: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guéhi, O'Reilly; Anderson, Bouaddi, Fernández; Foden, Haaland, Doku.

Head to head

Villa did the double over City last season, winning 1-0 at Villa Park and 2-1 at the Etihad in Pep Guardiola's final game. City have lost their last three trips to Villa Park. Win again, and Villa beat City three times in a row for the first time in the Premier League era.
