Fleetwood Town are in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the first time, and they got there by beating Arsenal. Read that again.
Aaron Loupalo-Bi, on loan from Fulham, gave the League Two side the lead after 21 minutes. Arsenal were much better after the break, and Viktor Gyökeres turned in an equaliser on 50 minutes, his first goal of the season. But they couldn't find a winner. Max Dowman was sent off late on, and it went to penalties.
Fleetwood scored all five. Goalkeeper Jay Lynch saved from Bruno Guimarães, and teenage defender Conor Haughey smashed in the winning kick to make it 5-3.
It's the first time the reigning Premier League champions have been knocked out of the League Cup by a fourth-tier side. "A really sad day for us," Mikel Arteta said afterwards. Arsenal go to Liverpool on Sunday.
In Serie A, Lazio won 6-2 at Sassuolo and are now top on their own with 25 points, three clear of Inter. Tijjani Noslin scored twice. Roma beat Cagliari 4-2 to move up to third, and Como came from behind to win 3-1 at Torino.
Inter can close the gap tonight at Venezia, and Liverpool host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
