Liverpool and Man City win on penalties as Bologna stun Milan

Two Carabao Cup shootouts sent Liverpool and Man City through. In Serie A, Inter caught Lazio at the top before Saturday's derby, and Milan lost 4-2 at home to Bologna.
Two big Carabao Cup ties, two penalty shootouts. Both home sides got through.
At Anfield, Liverpool and Chelsea drew 1-1, and both goals came from the spot. Morgan Rogers scored for Chelsea on 40 minutes, and Cody Gakpo levelled three minutes later. The shootout went to sudden death, and Wesley Fofana blazed Chelsea's kick over the bar to give Liverpool a 6-5 win.
Man City needed a shootout too. Brighton led twice through Malick Yalcouyé and Georginio Rutter. Mateo Kovačić equalised before half-time, and Vitor Reis turned a Rayan Cherki free kick into his own net to make it 2-2. Back-up keeper Gerónimo Rulli saved two penalties, and Cherki scored the winner as City went through 4-3. The two sides meet again at the Etihad in the league on Saturday.
In Serie A, the Milan derby just got bigger. Inter won 2-0 at Venezia to draw level with Lazio on 25 points. Milan, though, lost 4-2 at home to Bologna. Samuel Mbangula scored a hat-trick, and two goals from Alphadjo Cissè weren't enough. Milan stay fifth on 18.
Elsewhere, Genoa beat Juventus 2-0, Napoli won 4-1 at Monza, and Parma and Udinese drew 0-0. Milan and Inter meet on Saturday at 3:45pm ET, and Liverpool host Arsenal on Sunday.
